June 13, 2025 – The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, in a significant partnership with DStv and Mzansi Magic, today hosted an exclusive pre-screening of the highly anticipated second season of Shaka iLembe. The prestigious event, held at the Isibaya Casino, brought together a distinguished audience including Amakhosi, esteemed members of the Royal House, and eager learners from Nqabakazulu Secondary School in Umlazi.
The pre-screening offered a captivating glimpse into the new season of the world-renowned historical drama, which continues to bring the rich tapestry of the Zulu nation’s history to life. Beyond the captivating visuals, the event served as a vital platform for profound engagement. Cast members had the unique opportunity to interact directly with members of the Royal Family and Amakhosi, facilitating meaningful discussions centered on the imperative of celebrating and diligently preserving the proud heritage of the Zulu nation. A key theme resonated throughout the deliberations: the pivotal and enduring role of uBukhosi as the unifying force that binds the nation together.
MEC Buthelezi underscored the significance of the collaboration, stating, “Today’s pre-screening of Shaka iLembe Season 2 is more than just an entertainment event; it is a powerful reaffirmation of our commitment to our heritage. We are incredibly proud to partner with DStv and Mzansi Magic in bringing this important narrative to a wider audience, especially our youth. The series serves as a powerful educational tool, reminding us of the sacrifices and triumphs that have shaped our identity.”
During the event, MEC Buthelezi made a groundbreaking announcement that further reinforced the commitment to cultural preservation. He revealed a new partnership with world-renowned artist and historian Mbuso Khoza. This collaboration will see Izizwe Zamakhosi being taught their respective traditional hymns. These hymns, often passed down through generations, represent a deep, spiritual connection between the past and the present, serving as a living testament to the ancestral lineage and cultural identity of each traditional community.
“Our partnership with Mbuso Khoza is a strategic investment in the intangible heritage of our people,” MEC Buthelezi emphasized. “These hymns are not merely songs; they are historical archives, spiritual anchors, and profound expressions of our collective memory. By reviving and teaching them to the younger generations, we are ensuring that the essence of who we are continues to thrive for centuries to come. This initiative will empower our communities to reclaim and celebrate their unique oral traditions, strengthening the very fabric of our society.”
