KZN COGTA MEC INSPECTS STORM-DAMAGED ULUNDI OFFICES, EXPRESSES CONCERN OVER REPAIR DELAYS

Ulundi, 05 May 2025 – The Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, MEC, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, today conducted an on-site inspection of the Cogta offices in Ulundi, which remain closed following significant storm damage that occurred in February this year.

During the visit, MEC Buthelezi was accompanied by senior officials from the KwaZulu-Natal Department of Public Works and Infrastructure, who provided an update on the ongoing repair efforts.

The MEC was shown the full extent of the damage, including the roof where sheeting had been torn off by severe winds and heavy rainfall.

During the inspection, the MEC expressed his concern that all government officials have been moved from the precinct causing hardships and inconvenience to members of the public who require crucial services such as that of SASSA, Home Affairs and Provincial Departments.

“This building serves as a vital access point for government services for our communities in the north, and it is also the seat of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders,” stated MEC Buthelezi. “Any prolonged delays in its repair could inadvertently hamper our efforts to effectively serve our people.”

MEC Buthelezi affirmed his commitment to engaging directly with his counterpart in the Department of Public Works to ensure the expeditious progress of the necessary repairs to this historically significant building.

During the inspection, MEC Buthelezi was also accompanied by Inkosi Sithole, the Deputy Chairperson of the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders.
