KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Nomusa Dube-Ncube held a town hall meeting with communities of wards 10 and 15 in the uMdoni local municipality (Scottburgh) today as part of the provincial Operation Sukuma Sakhe.
Members of the community raised their concerns regarding service delivery and lack of communication from the municipality. In her address to the community, the MEC called upon the councillors to put the needs of the ratepayers first when they go about their council business.
“As councillors, you have a duty to be accountable and act in the best interest of this community. The concerns of this community are valid and as the provincial government, it is our aim to see partnerships taking place between the communities and councillors,” said Dube-Ncube.
Prior to the community meeting, MEC Dube-Ncube, together with the Provincial Treasury’s Head of Department Simiso Magagula, visited the site of the Pennington Waste Treatment Plant, which has experienced serious delays over the last eight years.
Dube-Ncube met with the plant’s officials and she instructed engineers from her department to oversee the project and ensure that it is timeously completed.
The team then departed to inspect a pedestrian bridge which is under construction on the R102.
