DISASTER MANAGEMENT TEAMS DEPLOYED TO COLLAPSED STRUCTURE IN REDCLIFFE, DURBAN

Durban, 12 December 2025 – The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Disaster Management Centre has confirmed that emergency response teams have been deployed to the scene of a structural collapse in Redcliffe, situated north of Durban.

Preliminary reports indicate that a four-storey building under construction has collapsed, entrapping several workers who were on site at the time of the incident. The situation remains active and highly sensitive, with emergency medical personnel attending to the injured while specialized search and rescue teams work tirelessly to reach those who are still trapped beneath the debris.

All relevant disaster management protocols have been activated, and multiple agencies, including emergency medical services, fire and rescue units, and law enforcement, are on site to ensure a coordinated response.

KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has expressed concern over the incident and commended the swift response by emergency teams:

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the workers and their families during this difficult time. We have mobilised all necessary resources to ensure that rescue operations proceed as quickly and safely as possible. The Provincial Disaster Management Centre will continue to provide updates as more information becomes available.”
