His Majesty, the King, ISilo samabandla, is the Head of both the only Monarch and as well as the Institution of Traditional Leadership in KwaZulu-Natal. IMbube (His Majesty the King) is empowered by the Chapter 12 of the National Constitution and the KZN Traditional Leadership and Governance Act No. 5 of 2005. Both these Acts acknowledge the institution and its role within the system of democratic local governance.
In our Province it is ONLY uBayede (His Majesty the King) who installs all Amakhosi in addition to other customary responsibilities the King has. In this responsibility ISilo is supported by the Department of Co-operative Governance and Traditional Affairs.
This is the Government’s commitment towards the restoration of the dignity of Traditional Leadership by participating in the installation functions of Amakhosi.
