KZN COGTA demands municipal accountability even if it means taking them to court

Women must be steadfast and claim their rightful leadership space in a patriarchal society. That is according to KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Nomusa Dube-Ncube who was speaking at the Women of Impact Seminar in Durban on 17.08.18. Dube-Ncube cautioned that the current generation of women will be judged harshly by history for setting future generations of women up for failure if they remain mere passive spectators to men and the patriarchal society we still see in South Africa today. “Times have changed dramatically in favour of women but I do not think we have occupied the space that we should be occupying. Take for example those who came before us who against all odds resisted to have their voices drowned out. They collectively faced the might of the apartheid regime and registered their concerns. Now our generation needs to do an objective introspection and ask some difficult questions - are we truly where we need to be?” - said Dube-Ncube. “One of the challenges we are facing is that we are bearing the brunt of poverty, yet opportunities are out there for us to turn our lives around. We do not want to work together and the pull-her-down syndrome is a hindrance for us to ascend to all the new economic opportunities that are now available. We need to close ranks, work together and support one another. We desperately need forums of this nature where we share ideas and map a way forward for aggressive women empowerment processes,” said Dube-Ncube. Dube-Ncube urged women to work together to nip in the bud the scourge of abuse of women. She said if women are not supporting victims of abuse and expose perpetrators, war against women abuse would never be won. “Enough is enough - women and our girl children are raped and killed. Perpetrators are usually men known to them; men who are their partners, husbands and uncles. These are people that should be protecting them but instead they do the opposite. We protect these p

MEC Dube-Ncube delivers message of support at SATN Conference

It is the reality of our modern times. Slowly Universities are accessing learning through the use of technology. It is critical in the global competitiveness. Municipalities are looking for ways of addressing service needs using the technology. The Universities can help the government to work smart. Things are changing inevitable and there is a need to adapt. These were the some of the words from the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube who addressed the delegates during the International Conference on the Role of Universities in the 4th Industrial Revolution. This was during the first day of the three-day conference at Elangeni in Durban on 11.09.18 The conference is seeking to explore how institutions in other countries are addressing the challenges presented by the 4th Industrial revolution, understand the demands of business and the industry, hear the voices of the students and showcase innovations and network with the stakeholders. Dr Adriana Marais, one of the first people to settle on Mars, who was a guest speaker also shared some of the MEC`s sentiments on the topic.

MEC Dube-Ncube welcomes initiative by Standard Bank which will see furniture being donated to schools in eThekwini

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube, as the Operation Sukuma Sakhe champion for eThekwini, welcomed the multimillion-rand initiative by Standard Bank which will see previously disadvantaged schools in the province benefit through furniture donated by the banking giant. The hand over took place at Provincial offices of Standard Bank where on 07.09.18

KZNCOGTA announces support intervention in uThukela District

Councillors urged the newly elected administrator not to fear to implement the recommendations as contained in the terms of reference that guide his intervention processes. This was during the special council meeting of the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube to take off some of the powers from the Uthukela District Municipality as a directive of KwaZulu-Natal Cabinet after the municipality has failed to deliver on its duties, which also impact on the basic service delivery. Mr Ayanda Makhanya was announced as the Administrator at the District Council Chamber in Ladysmith on 05.09.18

MANDELA DAY MARATHON ORGANISING COMMITTEE CONGRATULATES WINNERS OF 2018 RACE

The Mandela Day Marathon Organising Committee has applauded the winners and supporters of this year’s race whose main 42.2km discipline today once again covered the iconic route between Edendale and the Mandela Capture Site outside Howick for the seventh time. The Mandela Day Marathon Organising Committee comprises representatives of KZN Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) and uMgungundlovu District Municipality who have jointly co-organised the race since its inception in 2012. "Some 24 000 registered runners have 'run the legacy' in various disciplines during Nelson Mandela's centenary year, creating a unique, once-in-a-lifetime experience for everyone present. The human spirit has once again triumphed," said KZN MEC for Cogta Nomusa Dube-Ncube. The winners of the main 42.2km race are Sintayehu Legese Yinesu (Ethiopia) in the men's category and Loice Jebet (Kenya) in the women's category. The winners of the 21.1km race are Bernard Bii (Kenya) in the men’s category and Mamorallo Tjoka (Lesotho) in the women’s category. The second and third in the main 42.2km race are Mabuthile Lebopo (Lesotho) and Mark Oyugu (Kenya), respectively, in the men’s race and Selam Abere Alebachew (Ethiopia) and Tsega Galani Reta (South Africa), respectively, in the women’s race. "The Mandela Day Marathon has again demonstrated our capacity to organise world-class sporting events that not only bring people together for a common purpose but also provide much needed economic opportunities for our communities and municipalities in KZN," said Dube-Ncube. The annual Mandela Day Marathon aims to celebrate and preserve the legacy of the late former President Nelson Mandela but also provide business and jobs for the local communities in the uMgungundlovu district. Cogta MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube optimistic audits will improve after key meeting with Municipalities

Cooperative Governance and Traditional affairs MEC Dube-Ncube meeting with mayors of municipalities who regressed in their audit outcomes for the 2016/2017 financial year to take stock of the progress made in addressing audit findings through the implementation of these municipalities’ audit response plans. The meeting took place at Mayville in Durban 14.08.18

Mandela capture vehicle unveiled in Howick marking 56 years since his arrest

A replica of the 1962 Austin Westminster used to ferry Nelson Mandela prior to his capture by apartheid operatives in 1962 was officially unveiled by KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Nomusa Dube-Ncube together with Mayors from the uMgungundlovu District at the Mandela Capture Site in Howick on Sunday.
