Disaster Management teams placed on standby as heavy rains and snow hit parts of KZN

Women must be steadfast and claim their rightful leadership space in a patriarchal society. That is according to KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Nomusa Dube-Ncube who was speaking at the Women of Impact Seminar in Durban on 17.08.18. Dube-Ncube cautioned that the current generation of women will be judged harshly by history for setting future generations of women up for failure if they remain mere passive spectators to men and the patriarchal society we still see in South Africa today. “Times have changed dramatically in favour of women but I do not think we have occupied the space that we should be occupying. Take for example those who came before us who against all odds resisted to have their voices drowned out. They collectively faced the might of the apartheid regime and registered their concerns. Now our generation needs to do an objective introspection and ask some difficult questions - are we truly where we need to be?” - said Dube-Ncube. “One of the challenges we are facing is that we are bearing the brunt of poverty, yet opportunities are out there for us to turn our lives around. We do not want to work together and the pull-her-down syndrome is a hindrance for us to ascend to all the new economic opportunities that are now available. We need to close ranks, work together and support one another. We desperately need forums of this nature where we share ideas and map a way forward for aggressive women empowerment processes,” said Dube-Ncube. Dube-Ncube urged women to work together to nip in the bud the scourge of abuse of women. Operation Sukuma Sakhe visits Ward 22 in Msunduzi

Phase one of the more than 5 million rand sewer project is underway at Dambuza. The project was visited by Kwazulu- Natal Treasury Head Simiso Magagula, who also represented the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube, during the Provincial Operation Sukuma Sakhe in the area. A cleanup campaign that was themed “Thuma Mina” was conducted by the government officials, community leaders and the community as part of encouraging the community to keep the environment clean. An identified needy family was visited and immediate and long-term intervention was put in place before proceeding to the community engagement meeting at the local community hall on 26.09.18

KZN COGTA leads the way country-wide in municipal capacity building

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube assured the community of KwaNokweja and eMazabekweni in the Ubuhlebezwe Local Municipality under the Harry Gwala District Municipality, that before the end of July this year, they will definitely have access to clean water. The MEC met with the communities on June and they urged government to move with speed to provide clean water.Dube-Ncube was accompanied by the Transport MEC Mxolisi Khawunda and Human Settlement MEC Ravi Pillay; who, also responded to issues of Roads, safety and Housing during a community engagement meeting in the area on 08.07.18

MEC Dube-Ncube reads riot act to Mooi-Mpofana councillors and staff

Drastic expenditure cuts must happen now to save the Mpofana Municipality from a total shutdown of the electricity by Eskom. This is what the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube said as she scheduled another meeting of the councillors for Saturday,15.09.18. The meeting will decide what has to be cut to save funds for the Eskom debt. The areas that were identified for the budget cuts include non-renewal of handsets contracts, reduction of excessive fleets, management salaries, some entertainment events, unnecessary security personnel and anything that was not critical if compared to the electricity. This was during her meeting with Councillors and a representative from Eskom and the councillors were told that it was the last intervention. The meeting was at the Mpofana Municipal Library on 14.09.18

It is the reality of our modern times. Slowly Universities are accessing learning through the use of technology. It is critical in the global competitiveness. Municipalities are looking for ways of addressing service needs using the technology. The Universities can help the government to work smart. Things are changing inevitable and there is a need to adapt. These were the some of the words from the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube who addressed the delegates during the International Conference on the Role of Universities in the 4th Industrial Revolution. This was during the first day of the three-day conference at Elangeni in Durban on 11.09.18 The conference is seeking to explore how institutions in other countries are addressing the challenges presented by the 4th Industrial revolution, understand the demands of business and the industry, hear the voices of the students and showcase innovations and network with the stakeholders. KZNCOGTA announces support intervention in uThukela District

Councillors urged the newly elected administrator not to fear to implement the recommendations as contained in the terms of reference that guide his intervention processes. This was during the special council meeting of the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube to take off some of the powers from the Uthukela District Municipality as a directive of KwaZulu-Natal Cabinet after the municipality has failed to deliver on its duties, which also impact on the basic service delivery.
