It is with sadness and deep concern that we have lost yet another Ward Councillor in our province, Cllr Ndukenhle Duma of Nongoma Local Municipality, in a brutal attack that also tragically claimed the life of an innocent child.
According to the information we have gathered, Cllr Duma was viciously attacked and killed by unknown assailants who opened fire on him while he was standing on the road. The assailants also killed a school child, while two others were injured and hospitalised, according to the reports.
As a department, we extend our deepest sympathies and heartfelt condolences to the family of Cllr Duma, his friends, and the entire council of Nongoma Local Municipality.
We also express our condolences to all the grieving families affected by this senseless act of violence, and we wish a speedy recovery to the injured children.
It deeply concerns us that such incidents continue to occur, robbing us of democratically elected councillors. We call upon anyone who may possess information that could assist in apprehending and bringing the perpetrators to justice to contact the law enforcement agencies. Acts of violence like this undermine our democracy and threaten the stability of our municipalities.
