KZN COGTA COMMENDS MUNICIPALITIES RECEIVING NATIONAL BLUE DROP CERTIFICATION AWARDS

The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) extends heartfelt congratulations to the municipalities within our province that were honored with National Blue Drop Certifications during the prestigious awards ceremony held at Emperors Palace in Ekurhuleni on Tuesday, 05 December 2023.

The Department of Water and Sanitation, under the leadership of Minister Senzo Mchunu and Deputy Minister Judith Tshabalala, presented these esteemed awards as part of the release of the incentive-based regulatory reports. This event recognized the outstanding performance of municipalities in ensuring the quality and sustainability of their water supply systems.

The Blue Drop Certification is a testament to the commitment and dedication of our municipalities to the highest standards of service delivery. It reflects their tireless efforts in maintaining and improving the crucial infrastructure that underpins water supply systems across our communities.

In KwaZulu-Natal, three municipalities were bestowed with the National Blue Drop Certification for their exceptional water supply systems:

1. uMngeni-uThukela Bulk Water Service Provider: Recognized for the exemplary management of the uMgungundlovu water supply system.

2. Msunduzi Local Municipality: Commended for the outstanding performance of its Umsunduzi water supply system.

3. iLembe District Municipality: Acknowledged for its excellence in managing the Dolphin Coast Ballito water supply system, supplied by uMngeni-uThukela Bulk Water.

These municipalities have demonstrated their commitment to maintaining the highest standards in infrastructure condition, maintenance, operation, treatment processes, and staff expertise. The accolades they have received are not only a source of pride for the municipalities but also a reflection of the collaborative efforts between local government and the communities they serve.

The importance of these awards cannot be overstated, as they underscore the government’s dedication to service delivery and the well-being of our citizens.
