KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Nomusa Dube-Ncube has learnt with shock and sadness of the untimely passing of Mayor of uMshwathi local municipality, Cllr Siphindile Mbhele.

Mayor Mbhele is believed to have passed away this morning after a short illness. Dube-Ncube has described Mbhele’s passing as an “immeasurable loss”

“KwaZulu-Natal has lost one of its honest, hardworking and loyal servant.  The depth of pain we feel at the sudden news of the passing of Mayor Mbhele is unspeakable” said Dube-Ncube.

This comes at a time when local government institutions across the province need more exemplary leaders like Mayor Mbhele who will tackle challenges head on and remain unflinching in their pursuit of development for our rural communities.

“As the sphere of local government in KZN, we are greatly saddened by this loss. Her contributions towards improving the lives of our people can never be erased. We take solace in having worked with her and knowing that her life has inspired many,” said Dube-Ncube.

At this painful period in the calendar of local government, we extend our heartfelt condolences to the family, her political home the African National Congress and all the people of uMshwathi for which Councillor Mbhele was their committed servant.

Cllr Mbhele’s passing will indeed leave a huge void in our local government sphere, we thank the Mbhele family for their sacrifice in allowing their mother to serve the people of uMshwathi Municipality.  We also extend words of comfort to the uMgungundlovu district family of municipalities to whom the late Mayor was a pillar of strength and a fountain of wisdom.
