The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), Thulasizwe Buthelezi, handed over permanent, fully furnished homes today to families in Mbumbulu who lost their houses during the devastating 2025 floods.
Constructed through the Disaster Management Programme, these newly built homes are fully furnished and connected to water, allowing the beneficiaries to move in and settle immediately.
Speaking in Mbumbulu, MEC Buthelezi emphasized that this initiative demonstrates the government’s steadfast commitment to delivering basic services and restoring the dignity of affected households.
“Every family deserves a safe and dignified home. Today, we are not just handing over houses; we are opening the door for these families to restart their lives,” said MEC Buthelezi.
MEC Buthelezi also expressed his gratitude to Inkosi Mkhize, the traditional leadership, the eThekwini Municipality, and all stakeholders who played an instrumental role in ensuring the success of this housing project.
This milestone marks a significant step forward as the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Government continues its ongoing recovery efforts to rebuild resilient communities following historical weather-related disasters.
