ULUNDI, KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has made a passionate call to men reclaim their rightful role as protectors, providers, and positive role models within their families and communities.
Speaking today during Imbizo Yamadoda, MEC Buthelezi emphasized that true manhood is not defined merely by gender or physical stature, but by purposeful action, moral leadership, and accountable character.
“When we say a man cries, we do not mean a man cries without purpose. A man cries when faced with adversity, but he cries while moving forward. He does not break down in defeat; he stands tall and takes responsibility.”: MEC Buthelezi.
MEC Buthelezi raised strong concerns regarding the breakdown of family structures, the cycle of absentee fatherhood, and the rising scourge of Gender-Based Violence and Femicide (GBVF) affecting women and children.
Highlighting the perils facing young men—including substance abuse, crime, and lack of mentorship, MEC Buthelezi called on elder men to step up as mentors to guide young boys into responsible adulthood.
Addressing local government leaders, the MEC emphasized that public office and community standing require selflessness, integrity and dedicated service to the people, rather than personal gain and leaders must serve all citizens, irrespective of political affiliation.”
He reiterated CoGTA’s commitment to collaborating with traditional leadership, local municipalities, and civil society to build safe, peaceful, and prosperous communities throughout KwaZulu-Natal.
