MEDIA STATEMENT: KZNCOGTA MEC HLOMUKA WELCOMES THE PERMANENT APPOINTMENT OF CONTRACT WORKERS

As the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, we are pleased that we have finally been able to conclude the recruitment process for 119 employees who have been employed on a contract for a number of years within the department.

This has been a long journey which has kept us worried because we understood the anxiety that comes with the uncertainty brought by contractual employment.  However, we needed to ensure that all the relevant laws and prescripts were taken into consideration to avoid future complications.  Through this process, staff members have now been appointed within the department on a permanent basis and they will enjoy the benefits that come with permanent employment in the Public Service.

We want to commend the management of the department led by the Head of Department Mr Thando Tubane for the hard work that has gone into finalising this matter.

The appointed staff members provide much-needed capacity to the department and their permanent appointment brings stability and ensures that the department is able to fulfil its service delivery obligations to our communities.  We must hasten to say that the Department has always valued all its employees regardless of their employment terms and will continue to do so.

We want to applaud and thank all those who have played a role in the finalisation of the recruitment process.

Issued by the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Sipho Hlomuka
