HIS MAJESTY KING MISUZULU KAZWELITHINI SUCCESSFULLY HOSTS UKUTHELA AMANZI CUSTOM FOR SIX AMAKHOSI

NONGOMA, 30 June 2026 – His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini has successfully hosted and led the traditional custom of Ukuthela Amanzi for six Amakhosi today at the eMashobeni Royal Palace in Nongoma, with the participating traditional leaders receiving the collective support of their families and community members.

​The ceremony was attended by more than 3,000 people, including the KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs and Traditional Prime Minister to the Zulu Nation, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi.

This vital custom serves as an essential traditional process preceding the formal installation of Amakhosi, symbolising spiritual cleansing and reinforcing the bond between Amakhosi and the Royal House.

​”The preservation of our cultural practices anchors the identity of the Zulu Nation. We thank Amakhosi, their families, and communities for supporting our traditional institutions,” stated His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini.

​”The successful hosting of this custom by His Majesty reflects the synergy between tradition and governance. The Department remains committed to working alongside traditional leadership to drive sustainable rural development,” stated KZN COGTA MEC and Traditional Prime Minister, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi.

​Speaking as one of the participating amakhosi, iNkosi NZ Buthelezi stated: “Undergoing this rite under the leadership of His Majesty, supported by our families, deepens our commitment to community governance and service.”
