KZN COGTA CONTINUES WITH ROLL OUT OF 35 VEHICLES TO AMAKHOSI IN MULTI-PHASE PROGRAMME

Durban, 29 June 2026 – The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, led by MEC Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, today officially kicked off the next major phase of its multi-phase distribution of tools of trade to traditional leaders.

The process commenced in Durban today, where Amakhosi representing five districts gathered to receive their official vehicles.

This rollout forms part of a broader provincial initiative to distribute a total of 35 vehicles this week.

Following today’s launch in Durban, the departmental programme will move swiftly to ensure that other districts across the province also receive their vehicles over the course of this week.

The initiative stems from the Provincial Government’s pledge, announced during the 2026 Opening of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, to empower traditional leadership with the necessary resources to effectively fulfill their constitutional and customary responsibilities.

Recognising the indispensable role played by Amakhosi in promoting peace, preserving heritage, and advancing rural development, KZN COGTA is rapidly accelerating its support.

The provision of these vehicles is a practical demonstration of government’s resolve to ensure traditional leaders are mobile and well-equipped to reach the communities they serve, respond to local challenges, and work collaboratively with government to improve service delivery.

MEC Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi reaffirmed that traditional leadership remains a vital pillar of governance. Through this sustained investment, KZN COGTA continues to deepen its partnership with Amakhosi to advance responsive governance and uplift rural communities across all corners of KwaZulu-Natal.
