About Us
The KwaZulu-Natal Provincial Disaster Management Centre (PDMC), located in Mkondeni, Pietermaritzburg, operates under the Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (CoGTA). It was established in line with the Disaster Management Act No. 57 of 2002, which mandates an integrated and coordinated approach to disaster risk reduction, emergency preparedness, rapid response, and post-disaster recovery.
Key Functions:
– Promote disaster risk reduction and resilience.
– Coordinate provincial disaster response and recovery efforts.
– Act as a repository for disaster-related information.
– Provide advisory services to government, private sector, NGOs, and communities.
– Facilitate funding and partnerships for disaster management.
