KZN MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (Cogta) Nomusa Dube-Ncube has commended the great efforts that have been made in unblocking service delivery challenges within the local community by Utrecht’s Ward 2 War Room in the eMadlangeni municipality.
Dube-Ncube today visited Ward 2 as part of the Provincial Cabinet-led Operation Sukuma Sakhe, which saw all MECs and the Premier visit various wards within the Amajuba district family of municipalities with the aim of meeting community members and resolving service delivery challenges experienced by residents.
Dube-Ncube first met with the War Room of Ward 2, which gave an impressive report on the efforts made to resolve challenges faced by the local school. Emadlangeni Deputy Mayor, Ntshikelelo Ndlovu, who is also the Ward Councillor and the War Room Chairperson highlighted the impact they have been able to make through working with residents.
“We have been able to tackle social ills, like crime and substance abuse, through working hand in hand with sector departments who have been very helpful,” said Ndlovu. The delegation then proceeded to inspect various projects within the ward which include fixing of roads.
Dube-Ncube also met with residents at Ward 2 Community Hall where various issues were raised that touch on service delivery. The MEC made an undertaking to follow up issues with the various sector departments. In her address to residents, Dube-Ncube urged them to work together with the leadership in their municipality to tackle issues in a manner that is constructive.
“The purpose of our gathering with you is to inspect whether things are being done here. We are glad to see that there is progress, as this council has weathered various storms, including political instability within the council which previously delayed the implementation of service delivery programmes. This led to the department placing the council under administration in 2017. This intervention stabilised the municipality and last year this intervention ended,” said Dube-Ncube.
The municipality continues to receive specialised support from Cogta in the area of Local Economic Development with the aim of improving creation of employment opportunities through investing in proper infrastructure, such as roads, water, electricity and sanitation.
