HIS MAJESTY THE KING OPENS KZN PROVINCIAL HOUSE; 30 VEHICLES HANDED TO AMAKHOSI

ULUNDI – His Majesty King Misuzulu kaZwelithini today officially opened the KwaZulu-Natal Provincial House of Traditional and Khoi-San Leaders at the Old Legislative Buildings in Ulundi. The opening of this facility establishes a permanent administrative seat for traditional governance, facilitating the coordination of communal affairs and the preservation of the province’s cultural heritage within a formalised setting.

The House serves as a vital link between the provincial government and traditional communities, ensuring that the institution of traditional leadership remains a central pillar of social stability and rural development in KwaZulu-Natal.

Following the opening ceremony, 30 vehicles were handed to Amakhosi. The fleet, which includes Ford Everests and GWM P300 4×4 bakkies, is intended to improve the mobility of traditional leaders, enabling them to attend community events and execute their duties across various terrains.

MEC Buthelezi noted that this support extends beyond infrastructure and transport into academic capacity building. This follows the graduation of 47 Amakhosi from the UKZN Leadership and Good Governance Programme last year. A new cohort of Amakhosi has already been enrolled in the programme, which provides training in public governance, financial management, and land administration.

“The opening of this House and the provision of these vehicles are practical steps in our mandate to support traditional leadership,” said MEC Buthelezi. “By combining transport resources with the ongoing educational partnership with UKZN, we are ensuring that Amakhosi are equipped to serve their communities with efficiency and dignity.”
