Launch of KZN Good Green Deeds Clean-Up Campaign leaves parts of Pietermaritzburg CBD clean

Good Green Deeds, a campaign promoting responsible waste management, launched in Umsunduzi Local Municipality. Ministers and KZN MECs; Dr Zweli Mkhize, Nomvula Mokonyane, Barbara Thomson, Andries Nel, MEC Weziwe Thusi, MEC Dr Sibongiseni Dhlomo and Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube conducted a cleaning campaign in Umsunduzi. Multi million rand construction plant from KZN Cogta to assist municipalities was officially unveiled. Community members and workers responsible for cleaning were educated about the business opportunities on waste and cautioned CWP and EPWP to perform their duties diligent to discourage the perception that those employed under these programmes are not working, judging from the cleanliness. MEC Dube-Ncube said it is difficult to relate the issues of increasing hours or pay if the areas serviced are full of dirt. Community were also encouraged to get involved in recycling projects. Dr Mkhize reminded the members of the community and workers that Umsunduzi is the Capital City Of KZN and lamented how embarrassing to the visitors to see it surrounded by stinking garbage. He asked the community to preach importance of keeping the environment clean to others about and ordered that the municipality leadership do a self introspection, because the President or Ministers can not afford to come back to clean. The launch took place at Imbali Township in Umsunduzi and the cleaning happened in Pietermaritzburg CBD on 22.03.19

MEC Dube-Ncube calls for zero tolerance for violation of rights of women and children as thousands observe human rights day in KwaDukuza municipality

Human Rights Day serves as the reminder of the path gone by South Africa and education platform about responsible use of rights as contained in the Bill of Rights. Among the rights there is a right to protest, but destroying property does not only undermines the right of others, who have access to services through that property, but hinders the progress of services delivery and paint a bad picture of the Country to the investors who are very critical in addressing the unemployment and economic growth. Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube-Ncube addressed members of community after a march against human rights at Ntshawini in KwaDukuza Municipality on 21.03.19 The celebration was as a result of KwaDukuza Council resolution after the area experienced brutal killing of people; one incident involves a women who was buried by her love partner in the house, without her children knowing. A women was burnt to death following allegations of witch craft practices and these precede many other social ills challenges in the area . Community was reminded and taught that God gave people rights over everything and deprive them the the right over human lives. marchers were singing gospel songs and chanting slogans that discourage Human Rights Abuse.

KZN COGTA announces interventions at Mtubatuba and Richmond municipalities

Councillors two municipalities welcomed the intervention by Cogta as a burden relief and committed to cooperate with the appointed Administrators. Mr Sibusiso Khuzwayo is appointed to change the situation around in Umtuba while Mr Phumlani Mtambo for the Richmond Municipality. The Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube officially announced the Cabinet resolution to put both the Municipalities under Section 1391b during her meeting with councillors on 20.03.19

MEC Dube-Ncube hands over 100 title deeds in uMlaza.

Absence of feedback, acknowledgement of mistakes and stretching of hands where one could can go a long way in fixing of most of the community problems; the Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube said these words as she addressed the councillors and community. The MEC revisited Umlazi to update the community and to provide immediate interventions on the issues that were brought forwards during her first visit. MEC also took the Engineer to monitor the work regress of the water stream blockage which was causing flooding of houses. The visit took place on 16.03.19

Beleaguered Abaqulusi municipality placed under administration

Evidence of liquidity problems, an unfunded budget, critical vacancies, widespread nepotism and mounting debt to creditors, including Eskom were among the list of issues that prompted the Cabinet to recommend Section 391b to the Municipality. KZN COGTA MEC Dube-Ncube leads clean up in uMlaza, eThekwini

Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs MEC Nomusa Dube-Ncube ensuring that the community house yards at are left clean and causes of water leaks that damage houses are known. The MEC was leading the clean up campaign in Umlazi on 01.03.19 Illegal dumping sites were cleared up, trees and grass was cut. Illegal sewer pipes were discovered as one of the causes of flooding in yards and over flowing dirty water stream across the community houses. Members of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature, EPWP workers, Durban Solid Waste teams, Councillors, community members and Cogta and Municipal Officials participated on the campaign, which left the members of the community happy.
