uLundi, 11 September 2025 – The KwaZulu-Natal MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has noted with concern yesterday’s protest action by residents of Mondlo in response to load reduction measures.
In response to the situation, MEC Buthelezi will visit the community on Friday, 12 September, accompanied by representatives from the Abaqulusi local municipality and Eskom.
The purpose of the visit is to engage directly with community members and to listen to the issues they have raised.
MEC Buthelezi has appealed for calm and encouraged residents to allow space for dialogue. The MEC has equally called upon the Abaqulusi Municipal leadership to be receptive to suggestions and solutions from the community.
The MEC has urged Mondlo residents to express their views without breaking the law.
