Minister Hlabisa and MEC Cogta honour Inkosi Biyela in Nkandla Ceremony

NKANDLA, 6 April 2025 – Inkosi Bhekizwe Biyela of the eMahlayizeni Traditional Authority was celebrated for his 48 years of service during a ceremony held at the Nkandla stadium on Friday, 4 April 2025. The event which was attended by thousands of residents, including the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, the Minister for COGTA Velenkosini Hlabisa, Amakhosi, mayors and izinduna.

The gathering served as a platform to honour Inkosi Biyela’s commitment to his people and to highlight the milestones achieved under his leadership. Inkosi Biyela is recognised as a figure for service delivery and the development of isizwe, with local schools specifically acknowledging his support for education.

In his address, Minister Velenkosini Hlabisa spoke of Inkosi Biyela’s impact on the institution of traditional leadership. “Inkosi Bhekizwe Biyela is a figure of wisdom and a pillar within the institution of traditional leaders,” stated Minister Hlabisa. “He continues to share his wisdom and knowledge with younger Amakhosi, playing a crucial role in shaping the future of traditional leadership in our province.”

MEC Thulasizwe Buthelezi echoed these sentiments, commending Inkosi Bhekizwe Biyela’s dedication and announced the construction of a state of the art facility that will house the traditional authority. “Through the construction this new facility we are playing our part in ensuring that we empower isizwe and ensure they have access to facilities that will benefit their well-being” said MEC Buthelezi.

In a display of gratitude and affection, members of the community presented Inkosi Bhekizwe Biyela with various gifts, including a Toyota Fortuner, livestock, and numerous other tokens of appreciation. These gifts symbolised the respect and love the community holds for their Inkosi.
