KZNCOGTA MEC ANNOUNCES IZINDUNA EXCELLENCE AWARDS

uLundi, 3 April 2025 – The KwaZulu-Natal Department of Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (COGTA), under the leadership of MEC Reverend Thulasizwe Buthelezi, has announced the establishment of the Izinduna Excellence Awards. This initiative aims to recognise and strengthen the institution of traditional leadership within the province.

The MEC conveyed this announcement during a meeting held today with the chairs and deputy chairs of the local houses of traditional and Khoi-San leaders.

The awards will provide a platform for amakhosi to nominate izinduna who have demonstrated exceptional performance in their roles, including the maintenance of peace, stability, and social cohesion within their communities.

MEC Buthelezi stated that these awards will highlight the significant contributions of various structures within traditional leadership, which continue to hold relevance and impact in contemporary society.

“The department is committed to its mandate and to collaborating with amakhosi in recognising the crucial role played by izinduna within our communities,” affirmed MEC Buthelezi.

The date for the Izinduna Excellence Awards ceremony will be communicated in due course.
