KZNCOGTA DEPLOYS OVER 20 WATER TANKERS TO STRENGTHEN WATER SECURITY ACROSS SEVEN DISTRICT MUNICIPALITIES

ULUNDI, In a direct move to address severe water supply disruptions across KwaZulu-Natal, the MEC for Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs (KZNCOGTA), Thulasizwe Buthelezi, convened a critical coordination meeting with district mayors at the KZNCOGTA Mayville Offices in Durban.

The strategic session finalized the operational rollout of over 20 provincial water tankers designed to provide immediate relief to communities experiencing acute water scarcity.

The targeted intervention focuses on supporting seven key district municipalities currently facing severe service delivery constraints:

iLembe District Municipality
uGu District Municipality
Amajuba District Municipality
uThukela District Municipality
Zululand District Municipality
uMzinyathi District Municipality
uMkhanyakude District Municipality

Under this intergovernmental collaboration framework, KZNCOGTA will absorb the primary operational costs by providing the fleet of water tankers, professional drivers, fuel allocations, and ongoing vehicle maintenance.

Local and district municipalities will take charge of ground-level logistics, coordinating daily dispatch schedules to ensure water reaches high-priority households and public institutions efficiently.

This joint operation forms part of the provincial government’s broader strategy to stabilize municipal infrastructure and restore public trust through proactive service delivery.
